Ghee Rice Recipe

Ingredients for preparing Ghee rice

  • Basmati Rice  –  2 cups
  • Ghee  –  2 tbsp
  • Onion: finely chopped  –  1 no.
  • Green Chillies: crushed  –  2 nos.
  • Ginger: crushed  –  1 inch piece
  • Garlic : crushed –  3 cloves
  • Cinnamon  –   small piece
  • Clove  –  2 nos.
  • Cardamom Seeds  -  3  nos.
  • Cumin Seeds  –  ½ tsp
  • Cashew nuts – 5 nos.
  • Raisins  -  5 nos.
  • Salt to taste  -  ½  tsp

Steps for preparing Ghee Rice

  1. Make a paste with crushed ginger, garlic and green chillies and keep it aside.
  2. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, add cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and cashew nuts and fry for few seconds.
  3. Then add chopped onions and sauté till golden brown colour.
  4. Now add the ginger garlic and green chillies paste and sauté till the raw smell disappears.
  5. Add rice and stir fry for 2 to 3 minutes, add about 4 cups of water and salt.  Mix well and pressure cook for 2 whistles till the rice is cooked.
  6. Serve hot with any desired curry.
